Mumbai, July 6: Due to continuous heavy rainfall and a Red Alert issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD), schools and colleges will remain closed on Tuesday, July 7, in several parts of Maharashtra, including Mumbai, Palghar, Nashik, Ratnagiri, and parts of Pune district.

In Pune district, schools will remain closed only in the Maval, Mulshi, Bhor, Velhe, and Ambegaon talukas, mainly in the Sahyadri ghat region. Schools in Pune city and the rest of the district will remain open

In Mumbai, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has declared a holiday for all schools and colleges on Tuesday. Authorities have also advised private companies to allow employees to work from home wherever possible, as heavy rain is expected to continue.

Mumbai Mayor Ritu Tawde said the civic administration is working round the clock to deal with the situation. She also appealed to people to avoid unnecessary travel between July 8 and July 10 because of the forecast of more heavy rainfall. Local train services are operating, but citizens have been asked to remain alert.

In Ratnagiri, the district administration has announced a holiday for all anganwadis, schools, junior and senior colleges, and training institutes after the IMD issued a Red Alert for extremely heavy rainfall. Residents have been urged to avoid unnecessary travel and follow official advisories.

In Nashik, the district administration has declared a holiday for all schools following warnings of very heavy rainfall. Schools in both urban and rural areas, including Trimbakeshwar and Igatpuri, will remain closed.

In Palghar, all schools, colleges, and anganwadis will also remain shut on Tuesday after the district received a Red Alert for heavy rain. The administration has advised people to stay cautious and avoid unnecessary travel until weather conditions improve.
