10 Pune Corporators Face Disqualification Risk Over Alleged Illegal Constructions; Final Hearing Proposal Sent to PMC Commissioner
Pune, July 09, 2026: Ten newly elected corporators in Pune are facing the possibility of disqualification following complaints alleging that they carried out unauthorised constructions. The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) administration has submitted a proposal to the Municipal Commissioner to initiate the final hearing process in the matter.
The issue has resurfaced after the municipal elections held in January following nearly four years of administrative rule. Earlier, as many as 24 corporators had challenged the election results in court, and the legal process is currently underway. Meanwhile, complaints seeking the disqualification of 10 corporators over alleged illegal constructions have reached the PMC.

The Election Office had sought reports from the City Engineer’s Department regarding the complaints. According to the department’s findings, evidence supporting the allegations was found in some of the cases, with records indicating that the concerned constructions did not have the required permissions from the PMC’s Building Permission Department.
Based on these findings, the Election Office has submitted reports on five corporators to Municipal Commissioner Naval Kishore Ram for final hearings. Four corporators have already completed the first stage of the hearing process, while some have sought additional time to respond. Reports on the remaining corporators will be processed after the City Engineer’s Office submits its findings.
Under Section 10(1) of the Maharashtra Municipal Corporation Act, an elected representative can be disqualified if it is proven that they carried out unauthorised construction after being elected. The amended provisions also allow for disqualification if the illegal construction was undertaken before the election.
Corporators Against Whom Complaints Have Been Filed
According to the report, complaints regarding alleged unauthorised constructions have been filed against the following corporators:
- Vyankoji KhopadeÂ
- Vaishali Bankar
- Surekha Kadam
- Sheetal Sawant
- Kashif Fakhrul Hasan Ali Sayyad
- Sangeeta DangatÂ
- Rekha Tingre
- Smita Kondhre
- Prachi Aalhat
- Nanda AbnaveÂ
If the allegations are established during the hearing process, the concerned corporators could face disqualification from their elected posts under the provisions of the law.
