July 16: Swiggy Instamart has partnered with Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) to introduce India’s first on-demand doorstep LPG gas cylinder delivery service through a quick-commerce platform. The new service enables customers to order cooking gas cylinders directly via the Swiggy Instamart app, making LPG access faster and more convenient.
The service will initially be available in Bengaluru, with plans to expand to other cities in the coming months. Customers can order 5-kg metal LPG cylinders and 10-kg composite LPG cylinders. The regular 14.2-kg domestic LPG cylinder is currently not part of the offering.
One of the key highlights of the service is that customers do not need an existing HP Gas connection to purchase the cylinders. While HPCL and Swiggy have announced the launch, they have not yet disclosed the pricing details.
How to Order an LPG Cylinder on Swiggy Instamart
Customers can order LPG cylinders through the Swiggy Instamart app by selecting either a 5-kg metal cylinder or a 10-kg composite cylinder.
- First-time orders will be treated as a new cylinder purchase.
- Future orders can be placed as refills by exchanging the empty HPCL cylinder during delivery.
- New customers must complete identity verification before receiving the cylinder.
- Proof-of-delivery documentation will be collected as part of the verification process.
Safe Delivery Through HPCL’s Distributor Network
Deliveries will be carried out through HPCL’s authorised distributor network, with trained personnel ensuring compliance with all prescribed safety and regulatory standards during transportation and delivery.
Expanding Quick Commerce Beyond Groceries
The partnership significantly expands Swiggy Instamart’s offerings beyond groceries, fresh produce, electronics, and household essentials. The launch also comes at a time when recent concerns over cooking gas supply disruptions have highlighted the need for more resilient and accessible last-mile distribution channels.
India remains the world’s second-largest consumer of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), with cooking gas supplied primarily by public sector oil marketing companies including Indian Oil Corporation (IOC), Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL), and Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL).
The Swiggy-HPCL collaboration is expected to make LPG cylinder purchases more convenient for urban consumers while leveraging quick-commerce technology to improve accessibility and delivery efficiency.
