Pune: PMC Targets Opening of Suncity–Karvenagar Flyover Before Metro Work To Ease Sinhagad Road Traffic
Pune, July 16, 2026: In a major relief for commuters in the Sinhagad Road corridor, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) is expediting the construction of the Suncity–Karvenagar Flyover and plans to open it to traffic within the next two-and-a-half months, ahead of the commencement of Metro construction on the Khadakwasla–Kharadi route.
After completing the Rajaram Bridge–Funtime flyover to reduce congestion on Sinhagad Road, the civic body has now intensified work on the Suncity–Karvenagar flyover, which will provide a direct link between Sinhagad Road and Karvenagar.

Maha Metro is expected to begin work on the Khadakwasla–Kharadi Metro corridor in the coming months. To minimise the traffic disruption likely during the Metro construction, the civic administration has prioritised the completion of the flyover before the project gets underway.
Construction of the flyover began nearly two years ago, and around 80 per cent of the project has been completed. The PMC has also initiated the land acquisition process for the approach roads on both sides of the structure.
Once operational, vehicles travelling from Ganga Bhagyoday Chowk on Sinhagad Road will be able to directly access Karvenagar and Karve Road via the flyover, eliminating a detour of nearly three kilometres. The new connectivity is expected to significantly reduce travel time for commuters from Dhayari and Nanded City, particularly once Metro construction begins.
Residents of the Sinhagad Road area have urged Maha Metro to defer construction work until the flyover is opened, arguing that it will help maintain smoother traffic flow during the Metro project.
Land Acquisition Remains a Challenge
While the flyover is expected to improve connectivity, concerns remain over incomplete land acquisition for the Shivane–Kharadi Road and other link roads connecting the flyover to Karve Road and the Development Plan (DP) Road in Karvenagar.
Local residents have warned that opening the flyover before these connecting roads are widened and completed could create a traffic bottleneck in Karvenagar. In response, the PMC’s Road Department and City Engineer’s Office have accelerated the land acquisition process to ensure the necessary road infrastructure is in place before the flyover becomes operational.
