Pune: Residents Seek PMC Action On Traffic Congestion And Road Issues Between Rajaram Bridge And Mhatre Bridge
Pune, July 16, 2026: Maharashtra Cabinet Minister Chandrakant Patil has assured that a detailed meeting will soon be held with senior officials of the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), Traffic Police and local residents to address traffic congestion and other civic issues on the important DP Road stretch between Rajaram Bridge and Mhatre Bridge.
Patil said he would personally look into the problems faced by citizens on this route and ensure necessary measures are taken to provide relief to commuters.

The assurance came after corporator Manjushri Khardekar, Chairperson of the Warje–Karvenagar Ward Office, conducted an on-ground inspection of the road along with citizens, party workers and PMC officials. She prepared a detailed report highlighting various issues and shared it with Patil. During a phone conversation with those present during the inspection, Patil assured that a meeting would be organised within the coming week to discuss solutions.
The inspection was attended by PMC Road Department Superintendent Engineer Abhijit Ambekar, Executive Engineer Purushottam Bhutada, BJP spokesperson Sandeep Khardekar, ward president Adv. Prachi Bagate, general secretaries Balasaheb Dhanve and Suyash Godbole, Mandal General Secretary Kunal Tonde, Mandal Vice-President Anagha Jagtap, senior leader Rajendra Yede, social worker Rupali Magar, Deputy Engineer Sachin Mehendale, Assistant Commissioner of the Ward Office Asmita Tambe, Deputy Engineer Vinayak Shinde, Junior Engineers Seema Solanki, Saudamini Ranbhor and Neelakshi Tadse, along with Krishna Patil, Sunil Holbole, Nilesh Ghodke, Prachi Tonde and several local residents.
Traffic Congestion and Road Issues Highlighted
During the inspection, severe traffic congestion was observed at Rajaram Bridge. Despite the presence of traffic police, vehicles were found stuck for several hours, with congestion extending up to Sinhagad Road.
Officials and residents pointed out that traffic pressure on the route is expected to increase further after the Suncity flyover becomes operational. They demanded immediate planning and corrective measures to manage the expected rise in vehicle movement.
Several other issues were also brought to the attention of officials, including:
- Improper gaps created in road dividers at multiple locations for pedestrian crossing, posing safety risks.
- The need for designated pedestrian crossings to control fast-moving vehicles.
- Waterlogging problems at several spots requiring immediate drainage solutions.
- Narrow stretches of the road where widening was suggested after completing the land acquisition process.
- Removal of encroachments obstructing traffic movement.
- Construction of continuous road dividers for better traffic management.
- Installation of a traffic signal at Matoshri Old Age Home Chowk.
- Addressing the issue near Pandit Farm, where the absence of a road divider has created traffic-related concerns.
Corporator Manjushri Khardekar expressed confidence that citizens would get relief as Chandrakant Patil has personally taken up the matter and assured intervention to resolve the long-pending issues on the Rajaram Bridge–Mhatre Bridge stretch.
