Pune, July 16, 2026: The Maharashtra State Election Commission has disqualified a total of 64 candidates from contesting elections for the next three years for failing to submit their election expenditure statements within the prescribed deadline.
In the latest action, 24 more candidates from the Pune Division have been declared disqualified under the orders of the State Election Commission. The action was implemented by Pune Divisional Commissioner Sheetal Teli-Ugale.

The affected candidates were given an opportunity to present their case during a hearing held on July 13, 2026. However, after failing to provide a satisfactory explanation for not submitting their election expense accounts on time, they were declared ineligible for a period of three years.
Candidates Disqualified in the Latest Action
- Chakan Municipal Council: 10 candidates
- Fursungi–Uruli Devachi Municipal Council: 13 candidates
- Sangli-Miraj-Kupwad Municipal Corporation: 1 candidate
Reason for the Action
Under the provisions of the Maharashtra Municipal Corporations Act and the Maharashtra Municipal Councils, Nagar Panchayats and Industrial Townships Act, all candidates are required to submit a statement of election expenses within 30 days of the declaration of election results. The candidates who failed to comply with this mandatory requirement have been disqualified from contesting elections for the next three years.
Total Disqualifications Reach 64
The latest action brings the total number of disqualified candidates across Maharashtra to 64. The overall list includes:
- Pune Municipal Corporation: 22 candidates
- Pandharpur Municipal Council: 15 candidates
- Akkalkot Municipal Council: 3 candidates
- Latest disqualifications (Pune Division): 24 candidates
Officials said the list of disqualified candidates has been made available at the offices of the respective District Collectors and the concerned local self-government bodies.
