Pune, July 20: The Zonal Transplant Coordination Centre (ZTCC), Pune, paid tribute to organ donors and their families by honouring 79 donor families during the 13th annual ‘Naman Diwas’ ceremony held on Sunday, celebrating the selfless act of organ donation and its life-saving impact.

The event was attended by Dr. Sachin Jadhav, Officer on Special Duty (OSD), Health Department, Mantralaya, and Dr. Abhijit Phadnis, Assistant Director of Health Services (ADHS), Mumbai, along with ZTCC members, transplant coordinators, healthcare professionals, representatives of the NGO Re-Birth, organ recipients, and donor families.

Describing organ donation as “a new beginning of life,” speakers at the event expressed gratitude to families who, despite experiencing the loss of a loved one, chose to donate organs and offer a second chance at life to others.

This year’s ceremony recognised 79 organ donor families for their extraordinary courage and compassion. Organisers said that such decisions, taken during moments of immense personal grief, have saved countless lives and continue to inspire society.

A special felicitation was also presented to Swati Kapre, a senior citizen who underwent a liver transplant 24 years ago and has since become a successful athlete. Kapre has won several medals at the World Transplant Games, including notable achievements in Germany last year, demonstrating how organ transplantation can help recipients lead healthy and active lives.

ZTCC Pune said ‘Naman Diwas’ is observed every year to honour the legacy of organ donors, express gratitude to their families, and spread awareness about the importance of organ donation.

The organisation said the annual observance serves as a reminder that every organ donation has the power to transform lives, keeping alive the spirit of humanity, compassion, and hope.
