Lohagad Fort Murder Probe: Police Say Accused Initially Planned To Stage Accident Before Alleged Killing Of Ketan Agarwal
Pune, July 22, 2026: The investigation into the alleged murder of Ketan Agarwal at Lohagad Fort has revealed that the two accused, Siya Goyal and Chetan Chaudhary, had initially planned to leave him permanently disabled in what would appear to be an accident before allegedly deciding to kill him, police officials said.
According to investigators, the original plan was to cause severe injuries that would make the incident look accidental. Police believe the accused intended to use Ketan’s condition as a reason to cancel his planned Bali trip with Siya on June 6 and call off their upcoming wedding without arousing suspicion among their families.
Investigators Allege Multiple Plans Were Considered
During the investigation, police found that the accused allegedly explored several ways to avoid suspicion. Among the options discussed were staging a road accident or a robbery that would leave Ketan with life-altering injuries.
Investigators claim Siya believed that if Ketan suffered permanent physical disability, it would become easier to convince her family to cancel the marriage. Police also allege that the duo searched for methods that would make any crime appear accidental and reportedly looked into whether slow poison could be detected during a forensic investigation.
Several Locations Surveyed Before Lohagad Was Chosen
Police said the accused allegedly visited multiple locations around Lonavala, including Tiger Point and Visapur Fort, before selecting Lohagad Fort as the site for the crime.
According to the investigation, Siya and Ketan visited Lohagad Fort on May 31, but police believe the trip was intended to assess the terrain, surroundings, and possible escape routes rather than carry out the plan. Investigators allege that the act was postponed due to concerns about the risks involved.
After further discussions, the accused allegedly finalised Lohagad Fort as the location where they would execute their plan.
Second Attempt Allegedly Abandoned
Police said Siya and Ketan returned to the fort on June 14, but the alleged plan was once again abandoned. During questioning, investigators claimed Siya stated that she changed her mind after spotting a snake near the location where they intended to act.
The investigation also revealed that Ketan had planned to celebrate Siya’s birthday at a resort in Mahabaleshwar on June 19. Police believe the accused decided to carry out the alleged murder on June 18 to avoid making that trip.
Police Claim Rehearsals Were Conducted
Investigators further allege that between June 14 and June 18, Siya and Chetan rehearsed how they would push a person from a height at Beverly Hills in Pune. Police claim the duo also reviewed why their earlier attempts had failed before allegedly carrying out the murder at Lohagad Fort on June 18.
The investigation remains ongoing, and police are continuing to gather evidence and verify the sequence of events surrounding the case.
