Pune: PMC Repairs 1,134 Potholes In Two Weeks, 54 Still Await Restoration
Pune, July 23, 2026: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has repaired 1,134 potholes across the city over the past two weeks as part of its ongoing monsoon road maintenance drive. According to the civic body’s road department, 54 potholes are yet to be repaired.
Official data shows that 1,188 potholes were reported between July 7 and July 21. Of these, 1,134 were repaired by ward-level teams, while work on the remaining stretches is expected to be completed soon, subject to weather conditions and site accessibility.
The PMC adopted different repair techniques based on road conditions and rainfall. Around 634 square feet of damaged road surface was restored using cold mix material, while 2,088 square feet was repaired with hot mix asphalt. Another 817 square feet of road was repaired using gravel and granular sub-base (GSB) material, and 62 square feet was restored using paver blocks.
In addition to pothole repairs, the civic body identified 162 waterlogging locations across the city and carried out drainage-related measures to minimise further road damage during the monsoon.
Among all ward offices, the Kondhwa-Undri ward reported the highest number of potholes at 388, followed by Wanowrie-Ramtekdi with 194 and Hadapsar-Manjri with 127. According to PMC officials, the majority of these potholes have already been repaired.
Rajesh Bankar, head of the PMC road department, said the repair drive is continuing across Pune. He stated that ward offices are conducting daily road inspections and repairing both citizen-reported potholes and those identified during field surveys. He added that the remaining potholes would be repaired as soon as weather conditions permit.
PMC officials said additional repair teams have been deployed to address complaints received during the monsoon season, while regular inspections are being carried out to monitor road conditions.
According to the Road Asset Management System (RAMS) Survey 2024–25, Pune has a road network exceeding 2,280 kilometres. Nagar Road–Vadgaonsheri has the largest road network at 411.03 km, followed by Hadapsar-Mundhwa with 376.5 km and Aundh-Baner with 172.04 km.
The survey also found that concrete roads now account for 1,115.05 km of the city’s network, while bituminous roads cover 918.44 km, indicating a gradual shift toward concrete pavements. It further classified roads based on width and surface type to help the civic body prioritise maintenance and future infrastructure projects. Nearly 944 km of Pune’s roads are between 3 and 6 metres wide, whereas roads wider than 45 metres make up only about 14 km of the total network.
