Police find important clue in threat call to explode bombs in Mumbai and Pune

Mumbai, June 23 : Mumbai Police on Friday said it has found an important clue to trace the caller who claimed that a series of 24 blasts will rock the city’s Andheri and Kurla areas on Saturday. The caller also threatened on Thursday that a bomb will go off in Pune at the same time.

Police sources said the caller’s location has been traced to Jaunpur in Uttar Pradesh, and the city police is coordinating with their UP counterparts to nab the accused. According to reports, the caller dialled the city police number and warned of bomb blasts in Kurla West, Andheri and Pune on Saturday at 6.30pm.

The caller demanded Rs 2 lakhs from the cops to prevent the blast. He told the police that he will be conducting the blasts himself and that he was offered Rs 2 crores to carry out the same. He then told the cops that if they give him Rs 2 lakhs, he will not just prevent the blasts but also jet off to Malaysia with his people.

The Mumbai Police have registered a case against the caller under Sections 505(1)(B) and 505(2) of the Indian Penal Code.
