Pune, April 12, 2026: In a significant step towards regulating street vending and addressing the concerns of hawkers, Mayor Manjusha Nagpure has announced key measures to bring discipline and legal structure to the sector.

As part of the initiative, all street vendors across the city will undergo police verification to ensure thorough background checks. Eligible vendors will be issued barcode or QR code-based identity cards, which will serve as official licenses for their businesses.

The QR code-enabled IDs will contain complete details of the vendor, including their identity, type of business, and the designated location where they are permitted to operate. Authorities believe this move will help curb unauthorized vending while providing protection and recognition to legitimate vendors.

The initiative is also expected to improve overall urban management and streamline street vending operations in the city.

Meanwhile, the street vendors’ association has extended its written support to the Municipal Corporation and assured compliance with key norms. Vendors have committed to maintaining cleanliness, avoiding littering on roads, cooperating with civic authorities, and ensuring that their activities do not obstruct traffic.

The Mayor has directed all concerned departments to ensure strict and effective implementation of these decisions, with the aim of making street vending in Pune more organized, clean, and regulated.
