Pune: Drunk Water Tanker Driver Nabbed In Mohammadwadi By Corporator, Handed Over To Police
Pune, April 12, 2026: A potentially dangerous situation was averted in Mohammadwadi after a drunk water tanker driver was caught and handed over to the police by PMC Corporator Kashif Sayyed on Sunday evening.
The incident took place around 6:00 PM near Raheja Premier Society, when the corporator noticed the tanker being driven in a suspicious manner. Acting promptly, he intercepted the vehicle and found the driver allegedly under the influence of alcohol.
The tanker (MH13-AX3125) is reportedly associated with Shiv-Sunkalp Water Supply. The driver, identified as Namdev, was detained on the spot and the police were immediately alerted.
Police personnel, led by officer Maruti Kale, reached the location and took the driver into custody for further legal proceedings.
Residents in the area welcomed the swift intervention, noting that reckless driving by tanker operators poses a serious safety risk, especially in densely populated residential zones. The corporator also brought attention to the issue by sharing the incident through a Facebook Live session.
The episode has once again raised concerns over drunk and negligent driving by heavy vehicle operators in Pune. Citizens are calling for stricter monitoring and enforcement to ensure road safety and prevent such incidents in the future.
Further investigation is underway, and authorities are expected to take appropriate legal action in the matter.
