Pune's HCMTR, Ring Road Projects Get Major Push; Land Acquisition Proposals Due Within 20 Days
Pune, July 19, 2026: Pune’s ambitious transport infrastructure projects, including the High Capacity Mass Transit Route (HCMTR) and the PMRDA Ring Road, have gained fresh momentum after civic officials were directed to expedite the land acquisition process. Departments have been asked to submit all pending land acquisition proposals within the next 20 days to keep the projects on schedule.
The directions were issued during a high-level review meeting chaired by Pune Municipal Commissioner Naval Kishore Ram. Senior officials reviewed the progress of the HCMTR, PMRDA Ring Road and proposed underground tunnel projects, while discussing measures to speed up execution and resolve pending issues.

According to officials, the revised HCMTR alignment has substantially reduced the need for private land acquisition. Around 40 percent of the proposed route will utilise existing roads, while only about 25 percent of the required land will need to be acquired from private owners. The remaining land requirement will be met through government-owned properties, making the acquisition process more streamlined.
The meeting also reviewed the proposed 83-km PMRDA Ring Road, which will pass through 44 villages across the Pune metropolitan region. Authorities have decided to retain the road’s planned width of 65 metres to accommodate future traffic growth. Survey work is nearing completion, after which the land acquisition process will begin before the project’s final alignment is approved.
To ensure better coordination and faster implementation, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) will establish a dedicated project implementation cell comprising nearly 40 engineers. The team will oversee planning, inter-departmental coordination and execution of major infrastructure projects, including the HCMTR, Inner Ring Road and underground tunnels.
Officials said closer coordination between PMC, PMRDA and other government agencies is expected to accelerate the projects, which are aimed at easing traffic congestion and improving connectivity across Pune and its rapidly growing metropolitan region.
