Pune Under Yellow Alert For Next 48 Hours As Monsoon Regains Strength; Heavy Rain Likely In Isolated Areas
Pune, July 19, 2026: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a Yellow Alert for Pune city and district for the next 48 hours, forecasting moderate to heavy rainfall at isolated locations as the southwest monsoon regains strength due to changing weather conditions over the Bay of Bengal.
Rainfall intensified across Pune on Saturday, bringing much-needed relief from the humid conditions that had persisted over the past week. Thick cloud cover developed over the city early in the morning, followed by light to moderate showers that later intensified in several parts of the city and surrounding areas.

Heavy spells of rain were recorded in localities including Koregaon Park, Shivajinagar, Kothrud, Hadapsar, Swargate, Sinhagad Road, and Kalyani Nagar, while the city’s traditional peth areas also received significant rainfall. The showers led to waterlogging on several roads, disrupting weekend outings and shopping plans for many residents.
Traffic congestion was reported on major roads, including Karve Road, Sinhagad Road, Nagar Road, Hadapsar, Bhugaon, Warje, and Hinjawadi, causing delays for commuters during both morning and evening hours.
According to the IMD, the monsoon has become active once again due to favourable weather systems over the Bay of Bengal. Rainfall activity is expected to remain intense across Pune district over the next two days, with isolated locations likely to receive heavy showers.
Authorities have also cautioned that rainfall is expected to increase in the ghat regions, advising tourists and travellers to exercise caution while visiting hill stations and mountainous areas.
