Pune : Engineering student assaults roommate who refused to write exam as dummy candidate
A 19-year-old youth in Pune faced a vicious assault after he declined to act as a proxy for his roommate during an engineering graphics examination, according to police reports.
The victim, identified as Sumit Vijay Phuljhare (20) from Kondhwa, was punched, kicked, and beaten with a leather belt by his collegemate, Sahil Rajendra Deulkar (19).
The Kondhwa police have registered a case against Deulkar under the relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) based on Phuljhare’s complaint.
Both the victim and the accused shared an apartment and were collegemates. Deulkar, aiming for better marks in his engineering graphics exam scheduled for January 12, repeatedly requested Phuljhare to take the exam on his behalf as a proxy. Despite persistent efforts and even pressure to accompany him to the examination hall, Phuljhare refused to comply.
With no alternative, Deulkar took the exam himself. However, upon their return to the apartment, Deulkar, filled with rage, physically and verbally assaulted Phuljhare.
The attack involved punches, kicks, and the use of a leather belt, resulting in injuries to the victim’s neck and back. Subsequently, Phuljhare fled the scene, while the police assured that the accused would be apprehended shortly.
