The Ministry of Education in New Delhi has introduced new guidelines to regulate coaching centers. According to these rules, coaching centers are prohibited from admitting students below the age of 16.

Admission can only take place after successful completion of the secondary school examination. The guidelines also caution coaching institutes against making false promises about ranks or good marks.

These regulations were established in response to concerns raised by the government regarding student suicides, fire incidents, lack of facilities, and teaching methodologies in coaching centers. The guidelines set conditions for registration, such as not engaging tutors with qualifications below graduation, avoiding misleading advertisements, and meeting minimum space requirements per student.

The objectives of these guidelines include creating a framework for the registration and regulation of coaching centers, defining minimum standards for their operation, protecting the interests of enrolled students, promoting co-curricular activities for comprehensive student development, and providing career guidance and psychological counselling for students’ mental well-being.
