Last month, the Union ministry of education gave all states instructions to make sure that, for the 2024–2025 school year, a child is at least six years old when they are admitted to grade 1. Schools throughout the state are waiting for word from the state government before opening admissions.

Students turning six through December 2023 were admitted to class 1 this year. This academic year, children born between July 1, 2016, and December 31, 2017, are placed in class 1. For grade 1, the maximum age limit was set at seven years, five months, and thirty days.

While many educational institutions have started accepting applications for pre-schools and classes I through V, parents of potential students have been informed that the last round of applications will be accepted once the state sets the minimum age for entry-level admissions.
