In a strategic move to enhance user engagement and compete with traditional media, Elon Musk-led X, previously known as Twitter, has rolled out a new feature called ‘Articles.’

This announcement comes at a crucial juncture for the microblogging platform, facing potential regulatory changes in the European Union under the Digital Markets Act.

The move is expected to position X as a more versatile platform for content sharing, providing an alternative to traditional media outlets.

According to the official statement, Articles will be globally accessible, allowing users to format their content with various options, including headings, subheadings, bold, italics, strikethrough, indentation, numerical, and bulleted lists.

Notably, the audience control functionality enables users to determine the accessibility of their articles, offering both a community-wide reach and the option to limit access to specific audiences, providing a more tailored content-sharing experience.

“Articles is a new way to share long form written content on X. Publishing Articles is a feature limited to Premium+ subscribers and Verified Organisations. Articles are available globally,” the company said in a statement. In addition to text, articles can include images, video, GIFs, posts, and links. You can also format text with headings, subheadings, bold, italics, strikethrough, indentation, numerical and bulleted lists.

“Once published, an article can be read and shared by anyone on X according to the audience controls you’ve selected for the article,” said the company.

To compose an article

• Visit the Articles tab in the side navigation on x.com

• Click write and then publish when you’re ready.

• Your article will then be live on your profile on the Articles tab.

• You can also edit the article after publishing, and even delete it altogether, the social media network added.
