PCMC hikes fine for unauthorised axing of trees from Rs 5k to Rs 50k

Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation recently informed that the illegal axing of trees in the jurisdiction of PCMC shall now face severe action. The fine imposed on such activity has been increased from Rs 5000 to Rs 50,000. The civic body also informed that those informing the civic authorities about illegal axing of trees shall be rewarded.

This move was welcomed by many as there have been several cases of illegal tree cutting in the past. This move is welcomed and is in favour of safeguarding the city.
The decision was recently taken in a meeting held in presence of Rajesh Patil, commissioner, Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation who chaired it.

Subhash Ingle, deputy commissioner, garden department, Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation said, “The decision for revising the fine amount was taken as per the state environment guidelines. Previously it was Rs 5000, now it has been increased till Rs 50,000. This move will definitely curb the rampant illegal tree cutting.”
