Maharashtra Weather Alert: IMD Warns of Heavy Rain, 60 kmph Winds; Alerts Issued Across 24 Districts
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued fresh weather alerts for Maharashtra as the southwest monsoon remains active across the state. Heavy rainfall, strong winds, and thunderstorms are expected over the next 24 hours, prompting the IMD to issue Orange Alerts for five districts and Yellow Alerts for 19 districts.
The department has warned that the Konkan coast and ghat (hill) regions are likely to receive heavy to very heavy rainfall, while wind speeds of 50–60 kmph, gusting up to 70 kmph, may affect several coastal areas.
Orange Alert for Konkan Districts
Heavy rainfall has intensified once again across Mumbai and the Konkan region. The IMD has issued Orange Alerts for Palghar, Raigad, and Ratnagiri, while Mumbai, Thane, and Sindhudurg remain under a Yellow Alert.
Strong winds ranging between 50 and 60 kmph, with gusts reaching 70 kmph, are expected in these areas, accompanied by heavy rain.
North Maharashtra to Witness Thunderstorms
The districts of Dhule, Nandurbar, Jalgaon, and Nashik are under a Yellow Alert, with forecasts of 30–40 kmph winds, thunderstorms, lightning, and light to moderate rainfall.
Meanwhile, the Nashik Ghat region has been placed under an Orange Alert due to the possibility of intense rainfall.
Pune Ghat Region Under Red Alert
The IMD has forecast light to moderate rainfall across Ahilyanagar, Pune, Satara, Sangli, Kolhapur, and Solapur.
However, the Pune Ghat region has been placed under a Red Alert, while the Satara Ghat region is under an Orange Alert and the Kolhapur Ghat region under a Yellow Alert due to the likelihood of heavy to very heavy rainfall.
Residents have been advised to avoid unnecessary travel through hilly and ghat sections during periods of intense rain.
No Alert for Marathwada
No weather alerts have been issued for Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Jalna, Parbhani, Beed, Hingoli, Nanded, Latur, and Dharashiv. These districts are likely to receive light to moderate rainfall, while many farmers continue to await widespread monsoon showers.
Vidarbha Under Yellow Alert
The IMD has issued Yellow Alerts for Akola, Amravati, Buldhana, Bhandara, Chandrapur, Gadchiroli, Gondia, Nagpur, Wardha, and Washim.
These districts may experience 30–40 kmph winds, isolated thunderstorms with lightning, and light to moderate rainfall, with heavy showers expected at a few locations.
IMD Advisory
The IMD has indicated that rainfall activity is likely to remain vigorous over Konkan, the Mumbai Metropolitan Region, and the Western Ghats over the next few days. Strong winds are also expected in several parts of the state.
Citizens are advised to stay updated with official weather bulletins, avoid unnecessary travel during periods of heavy rainfall, and take necessary precautions against strong winds and lightning.
