Noor Malabika Das found dead: Family cites career dissatisfaction and depression
The tragic death of actor Noor Malabika Das has cast a shadow over the Indian film industry, prompting calls for deeper scrutiny into the pressures faced by artists. Noor, who was found dead in her Mumbai apartment, reportedly struggled with depression and dissatisfaction with her career.
Noor, originally from Karimganj, Assam, moved to Mumbai with aspirations of becoming a successful actor. Her paternal aunt, Arati Das, revealed that Noor had “big hopes” and worked hard to achieve her dreams but was left “unsatisfied” with her progress. This dissatisfaction is believed to have contributed to her depression and eventual suicide.
Noor’s decomposed body was discovered in her Lokhandwala apartment after neighbours reported a foul odour to the Oshiwara police. The police, with assistance from the Mamdani Health and Education Trust NGO, performed her last rites due to a lack of immediate family response. Noor’s career included roles in various projects such as Walkaman, Siskiyaan, Teekhi Chatni, Jaghanya Upaya, Charamsukh, Dekhi Andekhi, and Backroad Hustle. Her most recent appearance was in the series The Trial, alongside Kajol and Jisshu Sengupta.
The All India Cine Workers Association has urged Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde to initiate a probe into Noor’s death. Their letter highlights a disturbing trend of suicides within the Bollywood industry and calls for a thorough investigation to uncover any potential foul play and address the root causes of such tragedies.
Noor Malabika Das’s untimely death underscores the intense pressures and challenges faced by those in the entertainment industry. Her family’s revelations about her struggles with depression and career dissatisfaction highlight the need for mental health support and systemic changes to protect the well-being of artists. The calls for an investigation aim to bring clarity and justice, hopefully preventing similar incidents in the future.
