In a recent incident in Pune, India, two municipal employees from the tax collection department were apprehended by the Anti-Corruption Bureau for allegedly soliciting a bribe of ₹25,000 from senior citizens to expedite the assessment process for new homes.
The incident unfolded at the regional office in Aundh-Baner in April 2024, where an application was submitted. Subsequently, the bribe request was made during a complaint resolution process, prompting the complainant to inform the local representative. Upon learning of the situation, he instructed the complainant to offer the bribe to another person
Upon accepting the bribe, both the employees were reported to the Anti-Corruption Bureau. They now face charges under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988.
The Anti-Corruption Bureau has initiated legal proceedings against the accused under the aforementioned section. If found guilty, they could face severe penalties under the law.
This incident highlights the ongoing battle against corruption in public institutions and the importance of reporting such unethical behavior. The involvement of municipal employees in bribery not only undermines the trust of citizens in government bodies but also obstructs the efficient functioning of administrative processes.

Only through collective action can we ensure transparency and integrity in governance, safeguarding the interests of the public and upholding the principles of justice and accountability.
