“Residents in Karnataka are preparing for heavy rains after the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued an orange alert.”

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for heavy rainfall in Karnataka today, June 12. Several northeastern and southern states are also expected to experience significant rainfall over the coming days.

North-Eastern States to See Heavy Rain

According to the IMD’s weather bulletin dated June 11, “Fairly widespread to widespread light to moderate rainfall accompanied with thunderstorm, lightning, and gusty winds (30-40 kmph) are likely over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, and Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim during the next 7 days.”

The IMD predicts heavy to very heavy rainfall in West Bengal, Sikkim, Assam, Meghalaya, and Arunachal Pradesh until June 16, and in Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura over the next three days. Thunderstorms, light to moderate rainfall, lightning, and gusty winds (30-40 kph) are expected in West Bengal, Bihar, Jharkhand, and Odisha until June 16, with conditions intensifying after that.

Rain Expected in North-Central States

As per the weather report, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh can expect light to moderate rainfall, thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds over the next four days.

Rain in the Southern States

Southern states including Goa, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Telangana, Kerala, and Lakshadweep will likely see light to moderate rainfall until June 14, accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds. Additionally, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, and Puducherry are expected to experience similar conditions until June 16.

“Isolated heavy rainfall is very likely over Madhya Maharashtra on June 11; over Kerala & Mahe, Marathwada, Interior Karnataka, and Telangana on June 11 and 12; Coastal Karnataka during June 11-13,” the report added.

Heatwave Alerts

IMD has also forecast heatwave to severe heatwave conditions in West Bengal, Bihar, Jharkhand, and Uttar Pradesh for June 12. Heatwave conditions are also expected in Uttarakhand, Jammu Division, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Delhi, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, and Odisha.
