Wangchuk also attached a video of him along with the caption elaborating on his plans. After extending warm greetings to everyone he says, “I hope no one has forgotten about me, Ladakh and Ladakh’s protest. When polling began in Ladakh, we had halted the protest so as not to hinder the election process. But now, since the elections are over and a brand new cabinet of ministers has been appointed and announced, we have decided to get back to our campaign…”

He went on to congratulate the Prime Minister of India and everyone in the newly appointed cabinet and respectfully reminded them of the promises that they had made in regards to the conservation of Ladakh’s environment and ecosystem back in 2019.

Sonam Wangchuk is an Indian engineer, innovator and education reformist, known for his work in sustainable development and education. He gained widespread recognition for his role as the inspiration behind the character Phunsukh Wangdu in the Bollywood movie “3 Idiots,” which was loosely based on his life.

Sonam Wangchuk’s “fast unto death” series is a form of nonviolent protest he employed to draw attention to various issues affecting the Ladakhi community, particularly related to education and environmental conservation.

Wangchuk’s work has earned him numerous accolades, including the Rolex Award for Enterprise and the Ramon Magsaysay Award, often referred to as Asia’s Nobel Prize, for his innovative solutions and tireless dedication to improving the lives of people in the Himalayan region.
