Pune: Citizens Raise Concerns Over Parking Chaos At SNDT Metro Station; Joint Inspection Sought
Pune, June 18, 2026: Growing parking congestion around the SNDT Metro Station on Karve Road has sparked concern among local residents, with complaints that inadequate parking planning during the station’s development has led to severe traffic and accessibility issues in the area.
Sandeep Khardekar, President of Creative Foundation, has written to Maha Metro Managing Director Shrawan Hardikar, urging immediate attention to the issue. In his letter, Khardekar highlighted that a large number of two-wheelers and four-wheelers are being parked along the narrow canal road adjoining the station, causing inconvenience to residents and motorists.
According to the letter, the situation is particularly challenging due to the movement of vehicles serving the Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru Colony, nearby commercial establishments, educational institutions, and residential areas extending up to Karishma Society.
Khardekar also pointed out that an increasing number of Metro commuters have started parking their vehicles in Pandurang Colony, raising concerns that the parking problem could spread further into surrounding neighbourhoods. The presence of an autorickshaw stand and a PMPML bus stop beneath the Metro station has added to the traffic congestion, he said.
In view of the worsening situation, Khardekar has demanded a joint inspection involving officials from the Pune Municipal Corporation, Traffic Police, Maha Metro, and other concerned departments. He has called for immediate implementation of corrective measures to ease congestion and improve traffic management in the area.
The letter further warns that if timely action is not taken to address the issue, residents and stakeholders may be compelled to launch an agitation to press for a solution.
