Weather Update: Pune City Likely To Get Light Spell Of Rain Till June 17Â

Maharashtra Weather Update: Heavy Rains Expected Across the State This Week, Yellow Alert Issued for Several Districts
The southwest monsoon’s Arabian branch weakening has led to a shift in the sheer monsoon zone over Maharashtra, impacting Pune’s rainfall prospects. According to Anupam Kashyapi, former head of the weather and forecasting division at the India Meteorological Department in Pune, the city is unlikely to experience significant rainfall until June 17, resembling more pre-monsoon showers. While heavy to severe category rainfall blessed Pune and its neighboring areas from June 1 to June 9, with instances of over 100 mm within a few hours in areas like Lohegaon, Wadgaonsheri, and Shivajinagar, the intensity subsided post the monsoon’s arrival on June 8.

However, following a week of substantial pre-monsoon and monsoon showers, the city has witnessed a decline in rainfall activity over the past three days. Weather department officials anticipate this trend to persist for the next five days, with the current northern monsoon limit passing through Navsari, Jalgaon, Amravati, Chandrapur, Bijapur, and surrounding areas while the Arabian branch weakens and the Bay of Bengal branch remains inactive post-cyclone Remal.
As per the latest forecast, rainfall activities across most areas in Maharashtra, including Pune, are expected to diminish after the next 24 hours. However, the Vidarbha region has been issued a yellow alert for moderate to heavy rainfall during the same period.
With the monsoon break-phase condition prevailing and the monsoon yet to cover the entire country, Pune residents may need to brace for drier days ahead as the rainfall takes a temporary hiatus, giving way to a lull in the weather patterns across the region.
