Swami Avimukteshwaranand Saraswati, the Shankaracharya of Jyotish Peeth, recently expressed his support for Uddhav Thackeray, the Shiv Sena (UBT) leader. During a meeting at Thackeray’s residence, Matoshree, in Mumbai, the Shankaracharya emphasized the betrayal faced by Thackeray and conveyed his hope for Thackeray’s return as Maharashtra’s Chief Minister.

Swami Avimukteshwaranand highlighted the deep pain caused by the betrayal and labeled it as a significant sin in Sanatana Dharma. He remarked, “Our pain will not go till he again becomes the chief minister of Maharashtra.” The seer also criticized the recent political shifts that led to Eknath Shinde’s ascension to the Chief Minister’s position after splitting the Shiv Sena.

The Shankaracharya’s comments resonated with many in Maharashtra, reflecting widespread discontent over the political upheaval. Additionally, he questioned the foundation of a Kedarnath temple in New Delhi, arguing it creates confusion since Kedarnath is traditionally located in the Himalayas.
