“Modern Masters: SS Rajamouli” will explore the visionary filmmaker’s impact on Indian cinema, featuring insights from industry legends and close collaborators.
Netflix has announced “Modern Masters: SS Rajamouli” as part of its 2024 slate of documentaries, showcasing diverse stories from across India. According to Deadline, the documentary will be presented by Anupama Chopra and will feature insights into the life and career of the acclaimed filmmaker SS Rajamouli.
The documentary will offer perspectives from renowned figures such as James Cameron, Joe Russo, and Karan Johar, along with Rajamouli’s close friends and industry colleagues, including Prabhas, Jr NTR, Rana Daggubati and Ram Charan. Anupama Chopra, the producer and host, emphasized Rajamouli’s transformative impact on Indian cinema. “SS Rajamouli is a visionary whose imagination has altered the course of Indian cinema. His craft has captivated audiences around the world. His epic narratives have redefined storytelling standards. We are thrilled to work with Netflix and Applause Entertainment to highlight his extraordinary career and his lasting influence on the world of film,” she stated, as quoted by Deadline.
“Modern Masters: SS Rajamouli” is part of Netflix’s 2024 lineup of Indian documentaries. Other notable inclusions are “Yo Yo Honey Singh: Famous,” which delves into the life of the rapper and actor Yo Yo Honey Singh, “The Greatest Rivalry – India vs Pakistan,” a documentary on the historic cricket rivalry, and “To Kill a Tiger,” an Oscar-winning documentary film.
SS Rajamouli, who recently made a cameo in Nag Ashwin’s “Kalki 2898 AD,” continues to be a significant figure in Indian cinema. The mythological sci-fi drama stars Prabhas, Deepika Padukone, Disha Patani, Amitabh Bachchan and Kamal Haasan. Rajamouli is renowned for directing blockbusters such as the “Baahubali” franchise, “RRR,” “Magadheera,” “Eega,” “Chatrapathi,” “Vikramarkudu” and “Yamadonga.” His upcoming project features Mahesh Babu as the protagonist.
