Pune, July 25, 2024: Due to unprecedented heavy rains and flood situations, the electrical infrastructure in Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad cities, as well as primarily in Mulshi, Maval, and Khed talukas, has been severely affected. To prevent electrical accidents, power supply has been shut down in 699 distribution transformers along with 13 power lines, as many meter boxes in various societies are submerged in water. As a result, approximately 84,600 customers have been left without power. Efforts are being made on a war footing by the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company (MSEDCL) to restore power, but continuous heavy rains as of Thursday afternoon have created significant obstacles to repair works.

The power supply in societies or areas where electrical infrastructure is submerged will be restored only after the water recedes and a thorough inspection is conducted. Citizens are requested to cooperate. Heavy rains and the release of a massive 40,000 cusecs of water from the Khadakwasla Dam until Thursday morning have led to water ingress in riverbank areas and meter boxes. Consequently, power supply has been shut down in approximately 38 distribution transformers in areas such as Ekta Nagari on Sinhagad Road, Pujapark, Gayatri Apartment, Jaltarang Apartment, Radhakrishna Residency, Kudale Patil, Dwarka Apartment, Anand Park, Sky Apartment, Sai Apartment, Siddhi Apartment, Jalapujan Apartment, Shamsundar Apartment, and others in Hingne, Kirkatwadi, Swargate, Dhayari, Vadgaon, and Navi Peth.

Additionally, power supply has been shut down in 17 distribution transformers in Wadgaon Sheri, Nagar Road, and Vishrantwadi areas. In Shivajinagar, the supply has been disrupted in areas like Chavan Nagar, Balaji Temple, Beverly Hills, Wakdewadi area, Shinde Garden, Ayodhya Nagari, Sindh Society, Rajiv Gandhi Nagar in Khadki, Rastapeth, Bhavani Nagar, Junabazar, Melvani Compound, Manish Park Society, Kondhwa, Pisoli Road, Khadi Machine Chowk, Wanawadi, Warje, and Karvenagar. Power supply is also disrupted in some areas due to tree branches and water ingress into feeder pillars, with restoration efforts ongoing on a war footing. In Nigdi, power supply has been shut down in Gharkul and Ota Scheme areas due to water ingress in the electrical infrastructure. Similarly, power supply in approximately 55 distribution transformers has been shut down in areas like Matoshri Nagar in Sector Four, the riverside area in Ravet, Sangvi, Hinjawadi, Dapodi, and Khadki.

Due to the heavy rains and flood situation, the electrical infrastructure in Maval and Mulshi talukas has been primarily affected. In Mulshi taluka, 30 to 40 electricity poles have fallen, disrupting power supply to 10 to 12 villages and approximately 2,600 customers. Additionally, power supply in 29 distribution transformers in Bhukum, Bhugaon, Man, and Marunji villages along the Mula river has been shut down for safety. In Alandi, power supply to two transformers and Vadgaon Shinde village has been shut down due to water ingress from the Indrayani river. In Plaint, two fallen electricity poles have disrupted power supply to two villages, and power supply to 18 to 19 villages in Kamshet, Lonavala, Karla, Wadgaon, Talegaon, and surrounding areas has been shut down. Power supply will be restored in these.
