The High Court’s decision has maintained the current state of affairs, keeping the situation ‘status quo’, while the draft development plan has become a source of growing dispute. Local residents and business owners have filed additional petitions against the plan in court.
Vasant Bhase, Deepali Hulawale, and Sukhdev Tapkir have expressed concerns about different parts of PMRDA’s draft development plan. They have taken their objections to the Bombay High Court, which had instructed them to get the court’s permission before approving the plan. Despite several hearings, there hasn’t been much headway. The status quo persists, and the fate of the draft development plan depends on the court’s ruling.
Members of the planning committee have initiated legal proceedings, pointing out numerous issues with the development plan. The plan, which is crafted around farmers’ worries, contains several mistakes. Even after numerous deadlines, the state government has yet to make a decision, casting doubt on the future of the plan.
The rapid urbanization in Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad has surged, leading PMRDA to release the draft development plan on July 30. A total of 69,200 objections and notices were submitted by citizens. The expert committee commenced hearings on March 2, 2022, and concluded them in December 2022.
The planning committee members are standing their ground, demanding the scrapping of the existing development plan and the creation of a new one. Their position remains resolute on this matter.
