Pune: Senior Citizen Attacked In Koregaon Park
On the morning of July 29th at around 8:30 AM, Simon, a senior citizen and dedicated social worker known for his work with community animals in Pune, was violently assaulted near Atur Park on Mangaldas Road, Koregaon Park.
The assailant, identified as Gaikwad, a politically influential figure, attacked Simon, resulting in severe injuries including brain hemorrhage and a fractured nose, as confirmed by a medical report from Sassoon Hospital.
A resident of Atur Park witnessed the assault and immediately contacted the police. The accused, Mr. Gaikwad, who lives in Mundhwa, was driving a white Creta (MH-12 NN 90) registered under Pandurang Ramchandra Gaikwad’s name.
Following the incident, Gaikwad’s father allegedly threatened Simon inside the Koregaon Park police station.
Initially, there was reluctance from the police to file an FIR, reportedly due to Gaikwad’s political connections and his father’s influence. However, an FIR has now been filed. Actress Ranjeeta, who lives in Atur Park and is a prominent Bollywood figure, came to Simon’s aid and faced verbal abuse from both the accused and his father. Witnesses also reported that Gaikwad was intoxicated and driving under the influence, which escalated the confrontation leading to Simon’s assault.
The community is encouraged to disseminate information about this incident to ensure Simon receives justice. Although the police initially seemed to favor the accused due to his political ties, the FIR was eventually registered thanks to the pressure from witnesses and concerned citizens.
