ISRO Chairman S Somanath has announced that the Aditya L1 spacecraft, India’s first space-based mission to explore the Sun, is approaching its final stage.

The spacecraft is anticipated to complete its maneuvers and enter the L1 point by January 7, 2024.

During an event held at VSSC to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the First Sounding Rocket Launch, the ISRO chief informed PTI that Aditya is currently in progress and nearing its final stage.

According to ISRO Chairman S Somanath, the Aditya L1 spacecraft, India’s inaugural space-based mission aimed at studying the Sun, is approaching its concluding stage. It is anticipated that the maneuvers required to enter the L1 point will be finalized by January 7, 2024. During an event held at VSSC to commemorate the 60th year of the First Sounding Rocket Launch, the ISRO chief mentioned that Aditya is currently en route and has almost reached its final phase.

Somanath mentioned that the ongoing preparations for the spacecraft’s entry into the L1 point are being carried out gradually. He further stated that the final maneuvers for entering into the L1 point might be completed by January 7th.

On September 2, the Aditya L1 was launched from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre (SDSC) in Sriharikota and it was a success. It is projected that the spacecraft will be positioned in a Halo orbit around the Lagrangian point L1, which is the closest point to the Sun, after travelling approximately 1.5 million km from Earth over a period of 125 days. In addition to various other responsibilities, it will acquire and transmit images of the Sun for scientific investigations.
