At the core of this system is a strong network of 430 quality cameras installed at 106 strategic points on the expressway. These cameras, which are equipped with artificial intelligence, are capable of detecting up to 17 kinds of traffic violations, including speeding and dangerous driving.

The ITMS project, which was commissioned on a PPP basis, is estimated to cost around Rs 60 crore. The project also includes a visual messaging system, which will provide commuters with real-time information, including weather, traffic updates and road closures, according to MSRDC.

Kusgaon is home to a CCC (Command Control Centre) that manages the system 24 x 7. The CCC works closely with highway police and RTO to deal with traffic violations detected by AI cameras. The CCC will forward the detections to the competent authorities for action, including penalties. The optical fiber links on both sides of the expressway will keep the cameras in constant communication with the CCC.
