Pune: With the increase in ridership on two lines of the Pune Metro, the need to extend the line has gained momentum. Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA), in collaboration with Pune Metro, has accelerated the development work of the 23.2 km Metro Line 3 project, out of which the 1.7 km long Maan village – Hinjewadi – Shivaji Nagar metro flyover with double ramps (double decker) will be constructed till next year.

Speaking to Pune Pulse, Ramdas Jagtap, Deputy Collector & PRO Official, PMRDA, states, “The double-decker flyover work on Ganeshkhind road, for Maan-Hinjewadi to Shivajinagar metro route, is almost 40 per cent completed. After the pillar work is done, the rest of the flyover work will be completed soon.”

As per information, PMRDA is planning to develop a 23.2 km Pune metro line 3 project under a public-private partnership (PPP). PMRDA has appointed a joint venture named Pune IT City Metro Rail Limited to develop the project. The joint venture will be made up of TRIL urban transport Pvt Ltd and Siemens Project Ventures.

Rinaj Pathan, Chief Engineer, Pune Metro, said, “The construction work of both the ramps, upper & lower, of the 1.7 km long double-decker flyover, connecting Maan via Hinjewadi to Shivajinagar route, was earlier supposed to be completed till November 2024. However, Pune Metro has expedited the work so much that now it will be completed by August 2024. PMRDA is funding the project while Pune Metro is constructing it.”

During peak hours, the service is expected to carry around 30,000 passengers in an hour between Hinjewadi’s Information Technology Park and the city’s Shivajinagar area.
