AFMC Pune Marks 62 Years Of Excellence With Celebrations And Honors
AFMC, Pune celebrated its 62nd anniversary of ‘Graduate Wing’ on 04 Aug 2024. Inaugurated on August 4, 1962, by V K Krishna Menon, then Defence Minister of India, over 7,600 doctors have graduated through its hallowed corridors and deliver exemplary services as notable academicians, clinicians, scientists, and administrators within the Armed Forces and at key public & private sector organizations nationally and globally.
In recognition of its exceptional services to the Armed Forces and the nation, AFMC was honoured with the President’s Colour by Smt. Droupadi Murmu, the President of India, on December 1, 2023. It has also been awarded Unit Citation by General Anil Chauhan, PVSM, UYSM, AVSM, SM, VSM, Chief of Defence Staff, on March 18, 2024.
Commemorating the occasion Lt Gen Sandeep Thareja, SM, VSM**, Director and Commandant, Brig Mukhtar Alam (Retd), the first alumnus of the college, Maj Gen Giriraj Singh, Dean & Dy Comdt and other dignitaries, laid wreaths at ‘Prerna Sthal’ to honor the brave hearts.
The two-day celebrations featured invigorating debate and quiz competitions, as well as spirited football, basketball and cricket matches between the alumni and the medical cadets, showcased their camaraderie and competitive spirit. The 59th edition of College magazine ‘Dhanvantari’, featuring the literary pursuits of medical cadets, alumni, and faculty was also released in the august presence of Lt. Gen. Madhuri Kanitkar (Retd.) PVSM, AVSM, VSM, Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor, MUHS, Nashik, an alumna of this college. Several veteran and serving alumni graced the occasion and reminisced their days as undergraduates at this illustrious institute.
The alumni of the college have a vast national and global footprint. Mirroring the festivities at AFMC, they reunited at the respective locations to celebrate the founding day of their alma mater.
Lt Gen Daljit Singh, AVSM, VSM, PHS, Director General Armed Forces Medical Services (DGAFMS) & Senior Colonel Commandant, Army Medical Corps extended his heartfelt congratulations to all the alumni on the occasion, complimenting their remarkable achievements and enduring contributions.
Lt Gen Dhiraj Seth, AVSM, GOC-in-C Southern Comd conveyed his best wishes to the institution and it’s faculty and cadets.
Besides training accomplished doctors, nurses and paramedical personnel the college has conducted numerous outreach health and awareness programmes in far flung remote rural areas of the state.
