AI-Based ITMS System Monitors Vehicles On Mumbai-Pune Expressway
Pune, December 6: The Mumbai-Pune Expressway has been equipped with an AI-powered Intelligent Traffic Management System (ITMS), featuring cameras installed at 52 strategic locations on both sides of the highway. These cameras, utilizing radar technology, monitor vehicle speeds. Vehicles exceeding speed limits are issued e-challans.
The ITMS system, implemented by the Pimpri-Chinchwad Regional Transport Office, enforces speed limits and traffic regulations across the expressway. In the ghat (hill) sections, the speed limit is set at 60 km/h for light motor vehicles (cars) and 40 km/h for all other vehicles. In non-ghat areas, light motor vehicles can travel up to 100 km/h, while the speed limit for other vehicles is 80 km/h.
In addition to speed monitoring, the AI-powered cameras detect traffic violations such as failure to wear seatbelts, use of mobile phones while driving, and lane indiscipline, with offenders receiving e-challans.
Deputy Regional Transport Officer Rahul Jadhav has urged all vehicle owners to comply with traffic rules and adhere to speed limits to ensure safety on the expressway. Vehicle users are advised to exercise caution and follow the guidelines to avoid penalties.
