AI-Powered Cameras To Curb Illegal Parking Near Pune Airport; Implementation Likely By August-End
Viman Nagar, June 18, 2025 — In a major move to tackle persistent traffic congestion around Pune Airport, authorities plan to install AI-powered CCTV cameras along New Airport Road and VIP Road (Symbiosis College Road) to detect and penalise illegally parked vehicles. The initiative is a collaborative effort involving Pune Airport authorities, Pune Traffic Police, and AeroMall management.
Airport authorities are conducting a feasibility study. Discussions with vendors and assessing the technical and operational feasibility of deploying AI-based systems similar to those on FC Road is underway. Once the report is finalised, implementation will begin.
The proposed system will include 3–4 AI-enabled cameras capable of detecting violations, capturing vehicle registration details, and automatically generating e-challans — all without manual intervention. A brief one-minute window will be allowed for drivers to move before penalties are issued.
Commuters report long delays, particularly during monsoons, with many blaming unauthorized roadside parking. Authorities believe the AI surveillance will streamline airport access and restore order on these key roads.
