An Air India air hostess was allegedly sexually assaulted by an intruder in a hotel room in Central London, according to multiple media reports. The incident occurred at the Radisson Hotel shortly after midnight on Thursday, August 15.
The air hostess was reportedly asleep in her room when the intruder entered and attacked her. He allegedly used a clothes hanger to assault her and dragged her across the floor when she attempted to escape. Her cries for help alerted her colleagues, who rushed to her aid. The accused tried to flee but was eventually apprehended.
Air India confirmed the incident in a statement to The Times of India, expressing deep concern over the unlawful intrusion at the hotel. “We are deeply anguished by an unlawful incident of intrusion at a hotel, operated by a major international chain, that affected one of our crew members. We are providing all possible support to our colleague and their broader team, including professional counselling. Air India is also working with the local police to pursue the matter to the fullest extent of the law, and with the hotel management to ensure such incidents are not repeated,” said an Air India spokesperson.
The victim sustained severe bruises and was taken to the hospital for treatment. She did not report for duty and, as reported by The Hindu, was on her way back to India after receiving medical care.
According to reports, the intruder may have been a homeless person, though his exact identity was not immediately known. He has been arrested and is in police custody.
