Pune: The air quality in Pune has worsened, posing a serious health risk to the residents. Pune, in particular, has experienced a surge in air pollution, with the air quality index (AQI) indicating that it is worse than Delhi and Mumbai.

As per the information provided, the concentration of ultrafine dust particles in the air is higher than particulate matter 2.4, leading to an increase in respiratory diseases among the populace. On Tuesday, Mumbai’s air quality index was at 146, while Pune’s was at 178, indicating that the weather in Pune is worse than Mumbai’s.

As per the information received, Delhi’s air quality has improved in recent days, with an air quality index of 110. Studies have shown that the concentration of PM2.5 particles is high in Mumbai and Pune, which is harmful to respiratory health and can lead to various illnesses. The air quality in Lohegaon and Alandi in Pune was the worst, with air quality index readings of 301 and 232, respectively.

The poor air quality in Pune during the winter is attributed to easterly winds and low wind speeds. Additionally, the increased vehicular population has contributed significantly to the rise in pollution levels. The rise in air pollution has led to an increase in the number of patients suffering from asthma, TB, cancer, cold, cough, eye, skin, and heart diseases. It is imperative that measures are taken to address the particular issue and improve the air quality in Pune to safeguard the health of the residents.

According to the official statement released by KS Hosalikar, the Head of Climate Research and Services at IMD Pune, ”The Air Quality Index (AQI) readings for Nigdi, Shivaji Nagar and Lohegaon are 226, 205, and 301 respectively.”
