Pune, India – On International Women’s Day, animal rights activists from across the country
protested at FC Road to raise awareness against sexual exploitation of female animals.
Sexual Abuse Isn’t Just a Human Issue – The protest highlighted the shocking truth about how
animals are sexually abused by various industries and how these industries exploit the female
reproductive system for profit. Activists held placards with powerful slogans, such as “Stop paying
for sexual abuse” and “Stop buying animal products.” They chanted slogans like “Their bodies, not
ours” and “Their milk, not ours,” drawing attention to the exploitation of female animals in the
meat, dairy, egg and wool industries.

“Today on International Women’s Day, as we advocate for women’s bodily autonomy and freedom
from sexual exploitation, we must also acknowledge the sexual abuse inflicted on billions of female
animals.”, said Yagna, an animal rights activist.

“The entire animal industry is based on the exploitation of the female reproductive system! We use
words like artificial insemination to hide what that act really is – rape!”, said Saee Manakant, one of
the organizers. “We feel entitled to forcefully impregnate animals against their will and subject
them to continuos cycles of pregnancy, birth, and separation from their offspring”, she continued.
Creative installations, including a depiction of a mother cow and calf tied separately with ropes,
highlighted the cruel practices in the dairy industry.

Sambhav, another organizer, added, “Animals are sentient beings, just like us. They feel pain and
have emotions, yet we selectively breed them so that we can take maximum amount of milk, eggs,
meat, wool, etc. from them!”

Poems recited by female activists depicted the horrors that female animals go through as a result of
human greed. “Every purchase of meat, dairy, eggs, and other animal products directly funds and
perpetuates this cycle of sexual abuse,” said Ruchi. “We’re asking consumers to recognize their role
in this system and to withdraw their financial support by eliminating animal products from their
lives.”

The coalition of activists is explicitly calling on consumers to stop using all animal products,
emphasizing that the only way to end this systematic reproductive exploitation is to not buy animal
products and hence not fund this industry.

The event sparked meaningful conversations with passersby, with some questioning the activists’
stance on personal choice. Amjor, an activist, responded, “Why do we have to choose to be cruel
when it’s possible for us to be healthy and thriving without exploiting animals? There are peerreviewed
research studies that acknowledge the benefits of a plant-based diet.” The activists also
handled out guides on how they can thrive on a plant-based diet and opt for plant-based alternatives
for their habits.

The event marked the first protest of the year, and the activists are determined to continue their
efforts, encouraging people to stop exploiting animals and join them in fighting for animal rights.
