In a groundbreaking moment for Indian Railways, the Vande Bharat Express was operated by an all-women crew for the first time ever on International Women’s Day. This remarkable journey took place on March 8, 2025, with Train No. 22223 CSMT – Sainagar Shirdi Vande Bharat Express departing from Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) at 6:20 AM.

The train was piloted by Asia’s first woman loco pilot, Surekha Yadav, alongside assistant loco pilot Sangeeta Kumari. The train operations were managed by Shweta Ghone, while an all-women team of Travelling Ticket Examiners (TTEs) ensured smooth passenger services. Key members of the TTE team included Anushka KP, MJ Rajput, Sarika Ojha, Suvarna Pashte, Kavita Maral, and Manisha Ram.
From loco pilots and train managers to ticket examiners and on-board catering staff, every aspect of the journey was handled by women. This initiative not only showcased the strength and dedication of women in Indian Railways but also set a new benchmark for gender inclusion in the transport sector.
