In a bid to increase student registrations for the Automated Permanent Academic Account Registry (APAAR), the Union education ministry has directed educational institutions to observe November 29 and 30 as “APAAR ID Day”.

As of November 25, only 65 lakh students (35%) in Maharashtra have received their APAAR identity cards. To boost registrations, R Vimala, project director for Maharashtra, has instructed schools to hold special campaigns for APAAR enrolment.

APAAR is a specialized identification system designed for all students in India, introduced in 2023 as part of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and the National Credit and Qualifications Framework (NCRF).

On November 29 and 30, schools will conduct special drives to enroll students for APAAR IDs. Online review meetings will be organized at the district level, and administrative officers will visit schools to review the initiative.

“The APAAR ID is an essential tool for students, and we urge all educational institutions to participate in this drive,” said Vimala while taking to the media. “We aim to increase student registrations and ensure that all students in Maharashtra have access to this vital resource.”
