A video of a 79-year-old woman, who is a retired Indian Army officer, has gone viral on social media. She now runs a small food stall in Indore, Madhya Pradesh. The video was shared by food blogger Kashish Soni on Instagram and has received more than 4.6 million views so far.
In the video, Soni asks the elderly woman what she is making. She smiles and replies, “Idli Sambar.” The clip then shows her preparing the food. She applies butter on the idli molds and steams the idlis. After they are ready, she makes sambar, adds spinach leaves, and serves the meal. She also says that she sells chole bhature, aloo paratha, and palak sabzi at her stall.
The woman shares that she served in the Indian Army as an administrative officer. After retiring from the force, she started this food stall. She said her discipline comes from her time in the Army, and it shows in the way she keeps her stall clean and works with full focus.
During their conversation, Soni asks her if cooking had always been her passion. She answers, “It’s not just about cooking, I’m passionate about everything I do.” She also says that she holds a fine arts degree and once went to Mumbai to follow her interest in the subject.
When asked why she never got married, she replied, “I wouldn’t have been able to pursue my hobby.” This line caught the attention of many people online, who praised her for making her own life choices.
At the end of the video, when Soni tries to pay for the food, the woman refuses to take the money and says, “Ye tum le jao chup chap (Just take this quietly).” Many viewers said this was their favorite part of the video.
In the caption of the video, Soni wrote, “She’s so strong. Serving tasty, tasty food on the streets of Indore!” She also shared the stall’s location, in front of the Modern Gift Store near Chandra Lok Colony, Khajrana Road, Shree Nagar Extension, Indore, so that more people could visit.
