Attack On Anil Deshmukh: Politics Heats Up In Maharashtra Ahead Of Assembly Polls
In a shocking incident, former Maharashtra Home Minister and Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Anil Deshmukh’s vehicle was attacked by unidentified persons in Nagpur, leaving him with head injuries. The attack occurred on Monday night at 8 pm when Deshmukh’s car was returning from Narkhed, with stones being pelted at the vehicle .
Nagpur Rural Superintendent of Police Harsh Poddar has stated that the police are taking the incident seriously and are investigating the matter. As a precautionary measure, police security has been increased in sensitive areas. A video of the attack is currently circulating on social media, sparking widespread outrage.
The opposition has been quick to condemn the attack, with many holding the government responsible. NCP leader Supriya Sule termed the incident “unfortunate and outrageous,” demanding a thorough investigation to bring the perpetrators to justice. Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Convenor Arvind Kejriwal also condemned the attack, stating that “violence has no place in a democratic society”.
However, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has taken a different stance, with Avinash Thackeray, BJP’s in-charge of Katol constituency, alleging that Deshmukh orchestrated the attack himself. Thackeray claims that Deshmukh’s own workers were involved in the stone pelting. The incident has taken on added significance, coming as it does just two days before the polls, with a close contest expected between Salil Deshmukh (NCP) and Charan Singh Thakur (BJP) in Katol.
The attack on Anil Deshmukh has undoubtedly heated up the political landscape in Maharashtra, with tensions running high ahead of the assembly elections.
