The Mumbai Coastal Road project achieved a significant milestone with the installation of a critical 60-metre bridge span connecting the northbound carriageway to the Bandra-Worli Sea Link (BWSL). This marks the final bridge installation for the project, clearing the way for its operational launch in January 2024.

The 10.58-km Mumbai Coastal Road, combined with a 4.5-km Bandra-Worli Sea Link extension, promises to revolutionize urban connectivity by reducing travel time between Marine Drive and Bandra to just 12 minutes. The project also aims to ease traffic congestion across South Mumbai and the Western Express Highway.

Project Timeline and Milestones

• March 12, 2023: Southern arm (Worli to Marine Drive) opened.

• July 11, 2023: A 3.5-km stretch from Haji Ali to Abdul Gaffar Khan Marg was inaugurated.

• September 13, 2023: Southbound Marine Drive to Sea Link section opened to traffic.

• November 2023: Key installations, including a 44-metre span on November 5 and the final 60-metre girder on November 27, completed the northbound linkage.

The final phase involves completing concrete and asphalt work on the bridge, with road connectivity expected to be ready by mid-January.

The Coastal Road is poised to:

• Slash travel time between Marine Drive and BWSL.

• Reduce vehicular congestion on South Mumbai roads and the Western Express Highway.

• Provide an alternative route for commuters, enhancing the city’s overall traffic management
