Bank locker regulations for 2024: Items permitted and prohibited for storage in lockers

Various financial institutions, including State Bank of India (SBI), Bank of Baroda (BoB), and HDFC Bank provide lockers that are classified according to their dimensions. However, it is crucial to be aware of what is permitted in them.

Bank lockers are commonly used to safeguard various valuable items. These include jewelry crafted from gold, silver, diamonds, and other precious materials, as well as coins and bullion such as gold and silver bars. Additionally, important legal documents like adoption papers, power of attorney forms, wills, and property deeds are often stored in these secure spaces.

The updated regulations clearly state that cash and currency are not allowed in bank lockers. Furthermore, the storage of arms, weapons, drugs, explosives, or any contraband items is prohibited. Lockers are also unsuitable for perishable items, radioactive materials, illegal substances, or hazardous materials. Additionally, any items that may cause a disturbance or nuisance are banned. It is common for bullion, such as gold and silver bars, to be stored in these lockers.

SBI

The locker is intended solely for legitimate uses, including the safekeeping of valuables such as jewelry and important documents, and is not to be used for storing cash or currency.

It is prohibited to store arms, weapons, explosives, drugs, contraband items, perishable goods, radioactive materials, or any illegal substances, as well as any items whose use is restricted by Indian law.

Additionally, no materials that could pose a hazard or nuisance to the Bank or its customers are allowed.

HDFC Bank

Designed exclusively for legitimate uses, such as the safekeeping of valuables like jewelry and important documents, but not intended for cash or currency storage. Prohibited from storing arms, weapons, explosives, drugs, or any contraband items.Also, not suitable for the storage of perishable goods, radioactive materials, or any illegal substances.

Bank of Baroda

Bank lockers are designated solely for lawful purposes, including the protection of valuables such as jewelry and essential documents.

Prohibited items include weapons, explosives, drugs, or any other illegal substances. Additionally, any perishable, radioactive, illegal, or hazardous materials are not allowed. Also, Any item that could jeopardize the safety of the Bank or its clients is strictly forbidden.

ICICI Bank

Under the updated locker regulations at ICICI Bank, customers may use lockers solely for legal purposes. The storage of cash, weapons, drugs, or any hazardous substances is explicitly forbidden.
