Bapat pens letter for more international flights from Pune

Being a Member of Parliament from Pune, people approach me to take up the matter with the civil aviation authority to start international flights from Pune to Singapore, Bangkok, East Asia, Europe and America, he wrote.

Pune: Girish Bapat,Bharatiya Janata Party Member of Parliament (MP) from Pune has written a letter to Jyotiraditya Scindia, civil aviation minister requesting him to start more flight for overseas destinations from Pune.

Bapat who is chairman of the Pune airport advisory committee wrote, “There is only one international flight operating from Pune. Before Covid-19, there were more than 4 international flights from Pune. Being a Member of Parliament from Pune, people approached me to take up the matter with the civil aviation authority to start international flights from Pune to Singapore, Bangkok, East Asia, Europe and America. I shall be thankful to you if you will kindly instruct the civil aviation authority to start more international flights from Pune.”

The international flight operation in Pune started in 2005, with flights starting for Dubai and Singapore on 12 and 13 December 2005 respectively.

After that, Pune also had a connection for Oman and Bangkok respectively.

Mahratta Chamber of Commerce Industries and Agriculture (MCCIA) has also written letter to Jyotiraditya Scindia in which they have demanded to reassign the slot for direct air connectivity to Pune-Singapore-Pune, Pune-Bangkok-Pune and Pune-Dubai-Pune.

MCCIA has also requested to consider including Pune airport while formulating revisions of the bilateral service agreements in India-UAE and India-Thailand as well other countries. This will enable Indian carriers to choose Pune airport for direct air connectivity, they added.
