Bigg Boss 18's Yamini Malhotra Struggles to Rent a House in Mumbai: 'They Refuse Because I'm an Actor'
Mumbai: Actress Yamini Malhotra, known for her role in Ghum Hai Kisikey Pyaar Meiin and her recent appearance on Bigg Boss 18, has opened up about her struggle to find a home in Mumbai. The actress took to Instagram to share her disheartening experience of facing housing discrimination due to her profession.
In her emotional post, Yamini revealed that landlords and brokers questioned her religion and ethnicity, asking intrusive questions like, “Are you Hindu or Muslim?” and “Gujarati or Marwadi?” She further disclosed that many rejected her as soon as they learned she was an actor.
“Does being an actor make me less deserving of a home? It’s shocking how these questions still exist in 2025. Can we really call this the city of dreams if dreams come with conditions?” she wrote, highlighting the challenges faced by professionals in the entertainment industry despite Mumbai being regarded as India’s ‘city of dreams.’

The actress’s remarks struck a chord with many who have faced similar challenges in the city. Her experience has reignited discussions about housing discrimination and the stereotypes faced by actors and other professionals in Mumbai.
For those unfamiliar, Yamini participated in Bigg Boss 18 as a wildcard contestant but was eliminated within a few weeks. The popular reality show, hosted by Salman Khan, concluded on January 19, 2025. Karan Veer Mehra emerged as the winner, with Vivian Dsena as the runner-up and social media influencer Rajat Dalal finishing third. Other finalists included Eisha Singh, Avinash Mishra, and Chum Darang.
Yamini’s revelations underscore the need for greater awareness and action to combat discrimination in housing practices, particularly in a city that prides itself on being inclusive and aspirational.
