Handling a pomegranate can feel like more trouble than it’s worth—those stubborn peels and scattered seeds often discourage people from enjoying this nutritious fruit. But there’s good news. Celebrity chef and MasterChef India judge Kunal Kapur recently revealed a simple technique to cut and deseed a pomegranate effortlessly, along with a refreshing drink recipe perfect for hot days.

A Simple Method to Cut and Clean Pomegranate

Here’s how Kunal Kapur suggests preparing the fruit without the usual mess:

  • Start with a fresh pomegranate and a sharp knife. Slice off the crown (top portion).
  • Look closely at the exposed surface—you’ll notice natural ridges that divide the fruit into sections.
  • Carefully cut along these lines, scoring the outer skin without slicing too deep.
  • Gently pull the fruit apart using your hands to separate it into segments.

Once opened:

  • Remove the white pith from each section.
  • Drop the seeds into a bowl of cold water. This helps the remaining white bits float to the surface, making them easy to remove.
  • Strain the seeds, and they’re ready to eat.

For fresh juice:

  • Blend the seeds in a mixer until smooth.
  • Strain the mixture through a sieve into a glass, pressing with a spoon to extract all the juice.
  • Serve fresh and chilled.
