Centre provides ₹ 135 crores to Pune Municipal Corporation to make city pollution free
The Central government has allocated a fund of Rs 135 crores to the Pune Municipal Corporation under the 15th Finance Commission to make Pune pollution-free. A total of 131 cities have been included in the central government’s national clean air programme. Nineteen cities in Maharashtra including Mumbai and Pune, are part of the programme.
The various projects under this initiative will be implemented by 2025-26. The Municipal Corporation will get more funds in the next two years if the work of the projects implemented under this is beneficial in reducing pollution.
Giving information about this, Pune Municipal Commissioner Vikram Kumar said, “As much as 80 percent of this fund will be spent to promote e-mobility. Among them, purchasing new e-buses, setting up of charging stations, development of e-bus depots, construction of charging points in the city, provision of e-bike facilities to citizens will be done. Twenty percent of the funds will be spent to reduce the amount of PM 10 dust particles that have increased the city’s pollution. To reduce the dust on the streets, mechanical sweeping will be done. Mist-based fountains will be installed in some squares. Sophisticated systems will be installed to reduce smoke.”
